Maryland Green Schools

The Maryland Green School Awards Program is a holistic, integrated approach to authentic learning that incorporates local environmental issue investigation and professional development with environmental best management practices and community stewardship. All Maryland schools pre K-12, public, charter and private are eligible.  Applications are non-competitive and are accepted each year in the spring. Newly recognized Maryland Green Schools and Maryland Green Centers are announced in late spring.

Important Dates for Green School Applications:

March 25 3:45pm-4:30pm:  Although not required for the 2013-2014 Green School Application, The Mid-Atlantic Sustainable School FieldScope(MASS-FS) project will be conducting three webinars. Anyone interested in participating - or who cannot participate but needs assistance - should contact Cassie Doty at cdoty@umces.edu.

Application Review (Assistance needed!):

  • April 7th - Brookside Nature Center (1800 Glenallan Avenue Wheaton, MD 20902) 

  • April 8th - Arlington Echo (975 Indian Landing Rd., Millersville, MD)

  • April 9th - MAEOE Office (7761 Waterloo Rd. Jessup, MD 20794)

Maryland Green School Youth Summit, Sandy Point State Park, Annapolis, Maryland, Friday, May 30, 2014.  Keep an eye out for registration and volunteer opportunities.  There is a $2 fee for students and chaperones.
