Model Maryland Green School and Emeritus Maryland Green School

MAEOE Green Schools photo After a MD Green School/Center has successfully demonstrated sustained operation by twice re-certifying successfully, the school may choose from two options:

A. Recognition as a Model MAEOE MD Green School

These schools will be recognized on the website and at the ceremony as the highest achieving Maryland Green Schools. The school will use a simple annotated checklist, signed by the school principal/director to recertify every 4 years.  The checklist simplifies the recertification process.  No documentation is required.  NOTE: No further gifts (plaques, prints, citations, etc) will be given.  However, the school may continue to enjoy the MD DNR 1:1 match on tree orders and fly the MD GS flag.

B. Be known as a MAEOE Maryland Green School, Emeritus

If the school/center chooses to continue as a Maryland Green School/Center, Emeritus, there are no further obligations to re-certify.  In recognition of past activities and operations, the school or center name would remain on the MAEOE website.

Goals:

  • To recognize and promote the schools that have institutionalized and continue to sustain their MD Green School operations.
  • To recognize schools that (1) serve as models, and (2) promote the Maryland Green School Program.
  • After two successful re-applications, to remove the requirement for organizations to continually submit a detailed and documented re-application to maintain their status.
  • To reduce the management time and resources required for MAEOE to stay in communication with these schools and centers (process re-applications and provide incentives and rewards).

Process:

  • The school/center will be notified by letter and email that it may choose from the two options and will be requested to advise MAEOE of the organization’s selection.
  • If the school/center chooses to become “Emeritus”, it would be recognized at the awards ceremony and have that designation next to its name on the web site.
  • If the school/center chooses to become a “Model,” it would be recognized at the awards ceremony and have that designation next to its name on the web site.
