The Lasagna Method of Creating a Planting Bed

Planting Bed photoAn easy technique for creating a planting bed is to mow or weed whack the area at the lowest setting, place 2" of LeafGro down, place large sheets of regular cardboard over the planting bed (overlapping the edges) and place another 3-4" of LeafGro/mulch on top. Let the cardboard smother all the plant material underneath for 5-6 months, then place plant plugs and shrubs directly through the decomposed cardboard, add a little more mulch if needed, and water. No tilling is needed. You now have a viable planting bed; just add your native plants and habitat elements and you've created a habitat!
