Volunteer
Volunteers play an essential role in strengthening programs like Maryland Green Schools, supporting professional development events, and expanding community engagement efforts that make environmental education more accessible and impactful.
Help Cultivate the Next Generation of Environmental Stewards
Volunteering with MAEOE is a meaningful way to contribute to environmental literacy and help ensure that every student in Maryland has access to high-quality, hands-on outdoor learning experiences.
As a MAEOE volunteer, you’ll join a passionate community of educators, environmental professionals, parents, students, and advocates who share a commitment to sustainability and outdoor learning. Volunteers gain valuable experience, build professional connections, and develop skills that support both personal growth and career advancement—whether in education, conservation, or community leadership.
To express interest in Volunteering, email our Volunteer Coordinator.
MAEOE Green Leaders are adult volunteers who serve as dedicated guides for the Maryland Green Schools program. Their roles include:
- Introducing new schools to the Maryland Green Schools program.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to schools.
- Delivering professional development opportunities and information sessions.
- Volunteering at the annual Youth Summit.
- Reviewing Maryland Green School applications.
A MAEOE Green Leader can be anyone, be it a parent, educator, naturalist, college student, or any individual 18 years and older who is deeply engaged and committed to enhancing sustainability within their community.
Our Annual Conference, attended by over 500 educators, needs your help to make it a success!
As a Conference Volunteer you'll gain valuable event planning expertise while helping with registration, sales, and exhibitor set-up. All while joining the state's leading environmental educators, professionals, and community leaders for a weekend of learning, collaboration, and inspiration.
Each year in the Spring, MAEOE receives applications from schools participating in the Maryland Green Schools program.
Each application must be reviewed by three independent volunteers trained using the Maryland Green School rubric.
Training sessions and reviews are all done virtually.
Each May K-12 students celebrating their school’s Maryland Green School achievements attend the Maryland Green Schools Youth Summit.
Volunteers help with tasks such as registration, greeting buses, assisting at booths, and clean-up. This year's Youth Summit is on May 28 at Sandy Point State Park.
