The MAEOE Green Leaders Program is now the MAEOE Green Ambassadors Program!

Why the change and other frequently asked questions

MAEOE Green Ambassadors (formerly Green Leaders) volunteer with MAEOE to serve as dedicated guides for the Maryland Green Schools program. Their roles include:

  • Introducing new schools to the Maryland Green Schools program.
  • Collaborating with a school's Green School team as they progress toward the Green School Award.
  • Volunteering at the annual Youth Summit.
  • Contributing as a Green Schools Reviewer.

A MAEOE Green Ambassador can be anyone, be it a parent, educator, student, naturalist, or any individual deeply engaged and committed to enhancing sustainability within their community.

Please check back here in mid-September 2025 for information on how to become a MAEOE Green Ambassador in the 2025-2026 school year. 

Responsibilities of MAEOE Green Ambassadors

  1. Complete official MAEOE Green Ambassador Training.
  2. Deliver a presentation to one new or renewing school (resources provided by MAEOE, customizable with approval).
  3. Collaborate with at least one school to ensure they submit a Green School application by May 2025 for renewals or by May 2026 for new applications.
  4. Attend one MAEOE progress update meeting during the school year.
  5. Attend reviewer training and review at least five applications.
  6. Participate in the Youth Summit as a volunteer.
  7. Track volunteer hours.
