Schoolwide Sustainability - Objective 1.4.1

Bel Air High School

-Harford County-

Bel Air High School cleans their whiteboards, desks, and lab tables once a week using reusable cloths to reduce the amount of paper towels in the waste stream.

Washington Middle School

-Allegany County-

Washington Middle School replaced its coal boilers with cleaner natural gas boilers to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by up to 50%.

Our Lady of Good Counsel High School

- Montgomery County -

Our Lady of Good Counsel High School added solar pannels to the roofs of their buildings producing a total of 380kW to help with their schools electricity usage

Braddock Middle School

-Allegany County-

Braddock Middle School uses blackout curtains on their windows to help conserve heat and energy, keeping their classrooms cool throughout the year.

Parr's Ridge Elementary School

-Caroll County-

Parr's Ridge Elementary classrooms have each been given banners where they collect buttons to keep track of their Green School lessons.

Northwood High School

-Montgomery County-

Northwood High School has provided wall space for plant walls in their hallways. These plant walls allow for air filtration and show students ways to incorporate natural air filters into their home and work spaces.

Trinity School

-Howard County-

Trinity School has installed a 9,903 square foot bioretention pond that helps to catch and filter storm water to keep streams in their area that run into the Patapsco River clean.

Crofton High students share Green Team Tips in thier weekly announcements to help keep their peers informed and encourage sustainable practices.

Elmer A. Henderson: a Johns Hopkins Partnership

Pollution Prevention

Students from Elmer A. Henderson help to clean up in the Oliver neighborhood, helping to create environmental justice in Baltimore.

Mater Amoris Montessori School

-Montgomery County-
Water Conservation, Habitat Preservation

First through Sixth grade students at Mater Amoris Montessori brainstormed ideas to help with the erosion problem near their creek. Students implemented the idea of rock walls in areas where they commonly enter the creek area.

Washington Middle School

Energy Conservation, Advocacy

Students in the the First Lego League Robotics team at Washington Middle researched the environmental benefits of hydroelectricity and presented practical ways to implement these energy-conserving strategies to a panel of community members at their Qualifying Tournament.

Braddock Middle School

Pollution Prevention, Solid Waste Reduction

Students at Braddock Middle School bring in plastic bags, bottles, and other plastic products to be recycled for their recycling initiative.

Hereford Middle School

Students in the Bay Savers Club at Hereford Middle recycled used hall passes from science rooms collected over three days to create a tree mural that encourages students to remember to recycle.

Milton Somers Middle School

Students at Milton Somers Middle School researched information and issues partaining to our ocean; then wrote letters to the senator about these problems.

Oklahoma Road Middle School

Habitat Restoration, Opportunities for Nature Exploration

Oklahoma Road Middle Schoolers help to take care of the campus greenspace gardens and share the herbs with staff, encouraging and enguaging their students in the outdoors.

Milton Somers Middle School

-Charles County-
Responsible Transportation, Energy Conservation

Students at Milton Somers Middle School created flyers to encourage parents and bus drivers to not let their cars idle, preserving gas and lowering emissions.

Mater Amoris Montessori School

Pollution Prevention, Solid Waste Reduction

Mater Amoris Montessori School uses a compost pile to help reduce food and yard waste, as well as, recycled materials from being thrown into the trash.

Fallsmead Elementary School

Pollution Prevention, Healthy Indoor Environments

Fallsmead Elementary students in grades 3-5 worked together to create environmentally friendly cleaning solutions to use in their classrooms as a daily cleaning product.

Our Lady of Good Counsel High School

Healthy Indoor Environments

Eleventh grade students at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School planted an air purifying garden to help with air quality in their classrooms.

Fredrick Douglass High School

Opportunities for Outdoor Exploration, Habitat Restoration

Alumni and her Gardening Club from Upper Marlboro at Fredrick Douglass High School remodled the school's courtyard, turning it into a space to be used as an outdoor classroom allowing students to see biodiversity by planting 101 plants that are all labled. They also added outdoor seating areas for students and teachers to use at lunch or for outdoor activities.

Systemic Partnerships, School + Community - Objective 3

Parr's Ridge Elementary School

-Carroll County-

Parrs Ridge Elementary School donated their recycled rainbow from the school play to Mount Airy Public Library library to be displayed in the childrens section.

Eastern Technical High School

-Baltimore County-

Eastern Technical High School met at Marshy Point Nature Center in Middle River to conduct a litter clean up, keeping litter out of the Black River and Chesapeake Bay Watershed.

Trinity School

-Howard County-

Trinity School has partnered with St Vincent de Paul, a organization that takes donated clothing to families in need in the Baltimore area, to have a bin on their campus. They encourage their families and community members to donate clothing on their way to the carpool line, helping to reuse items insted of having them end up in a landfill.

Chesapeake Math & IT North Elementary School (CMIT N ES)

-Prince Georges County-

CMIT N ES completed a toy drive for those in need, donating the collected toys to Toys for Tots, a local Marine Corps charity in their area.
