Marketing & Communications Specialist

We are seeking a Marketing & Communications Specialist to amplify our work at the Association for Nature-Based Education (anbe.org). This is a vital part-time role for our growing nonprofit organization, based in the greater Baltimore, MD region.
This role coordinates the development and design of our promotional materials to spread brand awareness and market various program offerings (in person and online). The Marketing & Communications Specialist will create messaging strategies and marketing campaigns to educate and inform our audience about our many programs and resources. Position will include both online and offline promotion. Understanding of how to utilize social media content across many channels is essential. This role requires creativity, attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines, flexibility to meet audience preferences, collaboration with staff, and to a lesser extent with creative professionals for large or involved projects (e.g. graphic designer).
Note: We do not use artificial intelligence for the creation of our content and we value sharing authentic experiences and images directly from staff and program participants. While AI may be used for certain tasks (e.g. email automations or workflow processes), this is not an “AI” marketing role.
Primary Job Responsibilities
Marketing & Communications Specialist will handle a variety of individual and collaborative tasks to contribute to the creation of a marketing and public relations content. Given the part-time nature of this role, it is especially important to manage time and tasks thoughtfully each month.
Here are some of the duties you may regularly complete:
- Develop and follow a calendar of marketing tasks each month
- Design and create online marketing content such as: monthly newsletters and promotional emails, graphics/infographics, program brochures/flyers, ads, teacher resources, schedules/course materials, flyers/ postcards and other content as needed
- Design and create white papers, marketing videos, and website content
- Maintain and update our websites: anbe.org and naturalcommunity.org
- Identify the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and materials by tracking metrics (i.e. conversion rates, customer loyalty, customer satisfaction, ROI) and present this information to administrative team
- Review and analyze consumer data to analyze effective marketing strategies and successful ways to increase brand awareness
- Network with potential customers and industry professionals to grow brand awareness and promote our programs
- Ensure clean, consistent branding across all marketing and communication channels
Desired Skills
Verbal communication and public speaking: As a marketing communications specialist, your position will require you to collect, analyze and present data related to the success of marketing campaigns and public relations content. This means it’s important to possess strong verbal communication and public speaking skills so you can share your ideas clearly as a representative of ANBE.
Social media marketing: In addition to traditional public relations materials, you will be responsible for the creation of social media content, which requires you to have strong social media marketing skills. These abilities can help you stay up-to-date with the latest social media trends and create content to attract new viewers and potential clients.
Attention to detail: This role requires keen attention to details to ensure error-free marketing materials, brand consistency, and ability to review consumer feedback closely and use the information to develop new and engaging content.
Teamwork and collaboration: Although many job duties are completed independently, marketing communications specialists complete several tasks collaboratively, and will work alongside staff and other creative professionals complete projects and develop marketing campaigns.
Essential Experience and Education
The ideal candidate will:
- Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Mass Communications, or closely related field
- Be proficient in using online and social media forms of communication (e.g. FB, Pinterest, Instagram, LinkedIn, BlueSky)
- Be proficient in using online platforms (Google workspace, Canva, website platforms, etc.)
- Can type at least 50 words per minute
- Have reliable access to their own computer (work is done remotely with check-in calls on scheduled days)
- Have experience maintaining a website and/or be comfortable working with website and blog platforms
- Possess experience creating both business-to-business and business-to-consumer marketing content
Additional Training
Specialist may have one or more of these credentials which are preferred, but not required:
Professional Certified Marketer (PCM)
Certified Advertising Specialist (CAS)
Certified Integrated Marketing Communication Specialist (CIMCA)

Time Commitment: This position is part-time for up to 12 hours per week. We will schedule a standing weekly meeting and other meetings as needed to review progress on projects, etc.
Salary: Starting rate is $22/hour.
