Nature Camp Site Director – Central Maryland

Seasonal | Spring & Summer Focused | Potential Year-Round Continuation

Interviews Beginning February 2026 | Position Available Spring 2026

Who We’re Looking For

We seek a Site Director with:

✔ At least three seasons (preferably more) of experience supervising children (minimum of 24 cumulative weeks), with demonstrated responsibility for safety, judgment, and group dynamics

✔ Deep comfort in outdoor settings (forest environments, variable weather, limited facilities) and the ability to model that comfort for others

✔ Ability to coach and support staff in child-centered approaches to nature-based learning, behavior support, and risk-aware decision-making

✔ Clear alignment to free play and emergent learning philosophies, including comfort with minimal adult direction

✔ Interest in returning year after year and stewarding continuity across seasons

Hours and Expectations:

The role is seasonal from early spring through the end of summer (March through the first week of September.  During the preseason (March through May), you will work up to 10 hours weekly from home and be responsible for preparing the site, helping train staff, and promoting the program.  You will work on-site in Roland Park for Summer Camp with paid overtime.

Please Note:

This role is not a fit for traditional activity planners, rigid curriculum managers, or leadership styles centered on structured lessons and constant adult direction.  There is desk work, but this is not a desk-based leadership role or a traditional camp management position. Site Directors spend long days outdoors in all weather, make real-time safety and judgment calls, and support staff and children in an environment that is intentionally unscripted. Comfort with uncertainty, physical presence in the field, and the ability to lead calmly without over-directing are essential.

This role is best suited for adults who prefer leadership that prioritizes situational awareness and proportionate response over rigid structure, who are comfortable being visible leaders rather than activity planners, and who see outdoor, child-led work as serious, demanding, and deeply rewarding with time.

Compensation & Our Commitment to you

·        First season (starting) compensation of $24–$27+/hour, overtime eligible, based on experience and level of responsibility.

·        $500 annual Continuing Education Stipend plus registration expenses for 1 professional training per year.

·        A high-impact leadership experience with ownership of the site’s camp culture, staff development, and child development.

·        Clear season schedule requirements with opportunities for continued part-time work in the off-season and an incentive program for returning across seasons.

To Apply / More Info:

Inquire for more information or apply with a brief cover letter and resume emailed to Office@LureoftheWild.com with the subject line “Site Director Application.”  In your letter, please describe:

·        Your outdoor experience and comfort leading in dynamic settings

·        Your approach to child-led play in practice

·        Any experience mentoring or supervising other adults

Selected candidates will be invited to interview.  Please note: We are particularly interested in candidates who seek a returning, multi-season leadership role.
